News - Career AdviceEssential Marketing Solutions give advice and practical guidance to Year 10 students at West Park School on how to get ahead when taking their first steps towards a new career. Sharon Stevens-Cash recently volunteered to join companies like DHL, Derby City Council, Derby College and Connections to host two sessions at West Park School, in Spondon, to highlight the challenges students may face when preparing for work. Year 10 students were given practical advice as they prepared for their work experience placements on how to conduct themselves and give the right impression in a working environment. The students were given the task of preparing their CV’s, writing covering letters and also attending mock interviews which was a real eye opener. One of the students explained: “It was a different and fun way of learning and see what it’s really like to be interviewed.” Sharon Stevens-Cash added: “It’s not easy for young people to find work these days so it is even more important to help them understand the benefits of further education and gaining valuable experience. Many of the students expressed an interest in taking on unpaid work in their holidays to give them an edge when applying for jobs. They were all really motivated and I was impressed to see how enthusiastic they were about choosing a career.” -ends- May 2009 Media Contact Deborah Porter: Essential New Media .
